Dedicated to safety.

A revolutionary ride system doesn't happen overnight.

The technology and safety features we've packed into the Switchback® ride system have been developed over many years. The team at Holmes Solutions first introduced our world-first cable-to-rail technology back in 2017.

Over the years we've worked hard to expand enhancements and innovations for Switchback. We continue to add to our risk mitigation features - working to ensure that Switchback is a ride system that can provide all of the thrills while still adhering to our high level of safety behind the scenes.

Our approach calls for meticulous attention to detail, an application of New Zealand's famous "kiwi ingenuity", and a tremendous amount of testing - both in our lab, and out in the real world.

As with any challenge we set out to solve, we start out small and build our way up. Below is just a glimpse of the work that has gone into Switchback - from simple proof of concepts to the robust ride platform available today.

Early Proof of Concept

Located along a bustling tourist conduit in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - The Flying Ox, was the first showcase of our game-changing cable to rail technology of the Switchback® ride system.

The Flying Ox operates using a gravity-powered trolley with riders suspended in harnesses. This original gravity-driven system has been phased out and replaced with our Switchback self-powered vehicles featuring integrated seating.

The ride demonstrated the ability to transition seamlessly between cable and rail at speed on a thrilling gravity-based route that would make Sir Isaac Newton proud.

The ride was a collaborative effort: Steel Works fabricated and installed the track and infrastructure based on designs from Holmes Solutions for our Switchback ride technology. CLIMB Works oversaw production on behalf of their client, Lumberjack Feud. The Flying Ox officially debuted during the 2019 SAM Summer Ops conference.

Rider experience validation testing.

As we continue to expand the rail element options for Switchback® we conduct extensive tests to refine the rider experience. Our custom control system allows us to apply a variety of rider profiles - this lets you fine tune the experience of your ride. It also allows for an expanded customer base and repeat ridership as patrons explore multiple experiences on the same ride platform.
